Perlan Museum - Wonders of Iceland

Perlan Museum - Wonders of Iceland

Working with museum planning firm Lord Cultural Resources, alongside an interdisciplinary team of industrial and graphic designers, writers, and curators, I designed environmental graphics for this award-winning exhibit about Iceland's natural wonders. This museum is located in the iconic Perlan in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Like most large natural history museums, the exhibits were designed over multiple phases.

The first phase focused on Iceland’s many glaciers. Notable exhibit features included a floor map, 3D models, and a walk-in immersive Ice Cave.

The second phase, “Forces of Nature,” focused on Iceland’s diverse flora and fauna.

The exhibit featured an extensive timeline that weaved through the room. This piece was one of the most challenging pieces I ever had to prepare graphics for, given its ambitious structural and content requirements. It was composed of 60+ individual planks, slanted every which way to offer a dimensional and immersive feel to draw visitors into the space.

Each plank was its own artboard, and all graphic elements had to adhere to strict layout rules (while still accommodating the content) to ensure consistency and continuity throughout this dynamic piece.

The exhibit also featured a room with graphics, lighting design, and accompanying audio-visual effects, explaining some of the country’s natural phenomenons.
